Document accessibility remediation

Accessible STEM documents, done carefully.

We remediate PDF, Word, PowerPoint, EPUB and HTML files so that people who use screen readers can follow every heading, table and equation. Math and science documents are our focus.

  • Checked in PAC and NVDA
  • White label, under NDA
  • Our day is your night
Illustration: a document with its heading, formula, figure and table tagged, and a screen reader reading the formula aloud H1 Formula Figure Table “R equals v sub 0 squared, sine of 2 theta, over g.”

Standards we work to

  • WCAG 2.2 AA
  • PDF/UA
  • Section 508
  • ADA Title II

Files that meet WCAG 2.2 AA also meet the WCAG 2.1 AA level in the ADA Title II rule and the WCAG 2.0 AA level behind Section 508.

What we do

Services

Send us the files and tell us the standard you work to. We handle the rest, page by page.

PDF remediation

Tagged PDFs that assistive technology can follow from the first page to the last.

  • Tags and a logical reading order
  • Headings, lists and tables
  • Alt text for images and figures
  • Bookmarks for longer documents

Word and PowerPoint fixes

Heading styles, slide titles, reading order, alt text, tables and lists, fixed in the source file so that later exports start from a cleaner document.

Fillable PDF forms

Form fields with clear labels and tooltips, a sensible tab order and grouped choices, so a form can be completed with a keyboard or a screen reader.

Accessibility check reports

A plain report on a file you already have: what we checked, what passed, what failed, and what needs a decision from your side.

Sample work

Same page. Very different experience.

We wrote a two page physics handout and exported it twice: once untagged, the way many files reach us, and once remediated. On screen they look identical. Here is what a screen reader gets.

BeforeNothing to followNo tags, no title, no language. The equations are drawings with no text behind them, so a screen reader skips them, and the table reads as a run of numbers.
AfterEvery part announcedHeadings and bookmarks, 8 equations tagged as formulas with spoken alt text, a described graph, and headers linked to every table cell.

The range equation, read aloud after remediation

“R equals v sub 0 squared times sine of 2 theta, all over g.”

Who we help

Who we work with

Accessibility vendors and agencies

White label work for when you have more files than hands. We follow your process and templates, and the finished files go back to you under your name.

Publishers

Textbooks, journals and course materials in PDF and EPUB, with the math and figures handled with care.

Universities

Lecture notes, problem sets and research papers for disability services and digital accessibility teams facing the ADA Title II deadlines.

No charge, no commitment

Process

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Send your files

Email the files, or a sample, with any checklist or style guide you follow.

  2. Step 2

    Get a quote

A price and a delivery date, before any work begins.

  3. Step 3

    Remediation

Tags, reading order, math, alt text and whatever else the job needs.

  4. Step 4

    Two kinds of checks

PAC finds mechanical problems. NVDA finds what tools cannot judge.

  5. Step 5

    Delivery

Finished files, with notes on anything that needs your decision.

About

Who is behind EulerDesk

EulerDesk was started by a physics postgraduate who has taught math and physics for several years, in classrooms and online.

That background is why STEM files are our focus. Every equation, graph and table is handled by someone who understands the subject, not just the software.

  • Our team works from India, and our working day falls during the US night.
  • Your files are used only for your job and deleted after delivery.

FAQ

Common questions

How do you price a job?

Per page, based on how complex the pages are. A page of plain text costs less than a page full of equations, tables or form fields. We look at your files first and send a fixed quote before any work begins.

What files do you work with?

PDF, Word, PowerPoint, EPUB and HTML. If you have the source file, send it too. Fixing the source usually gives a better PDF.

Which standards and tools do you use?

We check against WCAG 2.2 AA and PDF/UA, or against your own checklist. Every file goes through PAC for automated checks and a manual review with the NVDA screen reader.

How do you handle math in PDF files?

We tag each equation as a formula and give it spoken alt text, which is what current PDF readers and screen readers support. In Word, EPUB and HTML we use MathML.

How fast is delivery?

It depends on page count and complexity, and every quote states a date. Our working day falls during the US night, so files you send in the evening can be worked on before your next morning.

Can you work under our brand?

Yes. For agencies we work white label. We follow your templates and checklists, and the finished files go back to you under your name.

How do you keep files confidential?

Files are used only for the job you sent them for, and they are deleted after delivery. We sign NDAs on request.
